OK, chicas. We are getting close. It will either be a May 16 wedding here in KC (Independence B&B) OR we can have a destination wedding. However, I can't seem to find the right combo of place that will do the ceremony and reception for a decent price, on top of our travel. As well as keeping costs low for anyone who wants to come. I figure about 20 people MAX. I also need it to be kid-friendly for my flowergirl. I have researched Bahamas, Aruba, Florida, Colorado and places in Sonoma and Napa Valley.
If anyone has suggestions or would like to hop on the Research Wagon, please feel free to do so. I want to set everything by this weekend so I can enjoy Mexico.
Once this part is over, I expect this planning process to be more fun. Because this part is REALLY sucking.

set by this weekend?!!
i need more notice!!
let me research my back issues of budget travel magazine for ideas.....
the couples resorts in jamaica do weddings (and the one we watched from a distance was gorgeous), but children are not allowed. not even if they stay elsewhere and just come to watch!
same for breezes in jamaica or bahamas.
the westin where we stayed in freeport does weddings! but you're looking at 5G, which seems high to me. (like i'm a wedding planer.)
now. my apologies to amy:
carnival cruise lines will do weddings either on the ship or in port. IF YOU DID THE WEDDING ON THE SHIP IN THE FLORIDA PORT, UP TO 50 GUESTS WHO DID NOT WISH TO SAIL COULD STILL ATTEND THE WEDDING. they just have to get off the boat before it sails.
the 'deluxe romance' package in ft. lauderdale:
includes ceremony, 90 minute reception, wedding coordinator, officiant, photographer, recorded music, bouquet & boutonnierre, 90 minute open bar, hot & cold hors d's, ice sculpture, champagne toast, wedding flutes for the bride/groom, wedding cake with topper, cake server and coffee. champagne and choc covered strawberries back in the stateroom. package covers 18 guests. extra bodies are only 30.00 each.
$1795. plus 6% sales tax. wedding license is 168.50.
OR you could get married on the beach when the boat stops in ocho rios. that package includes wedding planner, officiant, recorded mushic, bouquet & boutonniere, champagne and flutes, wedding cake. $1600 plus $145 for the wedding license. it doesn't say anything about tax. it also includes transportation to the beach for the bride/groom, but apparently the rest of the guests are on their own.
you could take the sunday, 5/3 cruise which means you and your wedding party could arrive on saturday in ft. lauderdale. doesn't your mom's BFF still live there? the wedding would be (i assume) sunday at 1pm or so. the boat then departs at 4pm. monday in key west, wednesday in the cayman islands, thursday in ocho rios, saturday back at ft. lauderdale. 6 nite cruise starts at $449 per person.
southwest kci to ft lauderdale is $252.
so your guests are looking at $800 each to attend, including room, board, and flight.
there are a couple of slightly cheaper wedding packages or shorter cruises, too.
holland america has some really nice options, but their cruises tend to be 7 nighters only. you can get married on their private island for $2150 including officiant, license, flowers, one bottle of champagne, recorded music & photographer. only 10 people can attend.
holland am also will do weddings at bluebeards castle in st thomas ($1850), lime tree beach, st. thomas ($1950), paradise cove beach in ocho rios (1795), and a few others in the $2200-$2500 price range.
i forgot to mention, you can also "register" for gifts at carnival.com so that people can pay down the price of your honeymoon/wedding.

dreams los cabos offers a free wedding if you stay 7 or more nites in a honeymoon suite or higher room category. and we know how you like cabo. includes service of judge, wedding coordinator, bride and groom flowers.
ouch. the honeymoon suite is $580 per nite, so $4200!! but, it's all inclusive......
The cruise idea is cool! But so is Mexico ... you and Ryan seem to love it there!
Are we talking THIS May? Like 4 months away?
not a wedding planner my ass!! :)
BUT now you have given her even more choices to choose from - not a good thing!! :)
and thanks for suggesting the cruise idea...really....BUT at least there is the option to NOT board the ship! :)
ROXY! why is that picture not on your facebook?!! it is GORGEOUS!!
Man, I am getting to this party late.
We did find lots of those options to be affordable to us, but I have just been having a hard time asking people to pay alot to come to my wedding. Our families are experience hard times, like most everyone else.
SO, I think we are going to go for the Independence thing. I will let you know by tomorrow.
And yes - it is 4 months away.
i'm going to need you and sarah jane to coordinate your weddings for the same weekend.
thank you.
The same weekend? But then you will be double-booked! You should just take off the whole week. Go to hers 5/9, and then help me all week to prep for my day - which is hopefully 5/16 ;)
nice, but i will have grad school at least 2 nights that week, possibly 3. and god knows i can't expect paul to handle kate for a solid week.
i'm thinking SJF can get married at 11am and you can get married at 5pm. then i can do both. and i wouldn't even have to change clothes! just an extra layer of eyeliner for the evening. :)
